My 2009 demo reel is up! Featuring some of my latest work and also all time favorites.
The second half of the video shows how to use Celulight and Normality to shade a 2D cel, which would be one hell of a task to do by hand but is peanuts for this powerful duo.
My 2009 demo reel is divided in two parts to more easily present my artistic and technical abilities and experience:
Part 1
The first 1½ minutes shows clips from projects I worked on in my role as a digital artist for Studio Lampion, Pendulum, as well as some earlier personal work.
Part 2
The more technical and visually somewhat less impressive second half deals with the results of my research and development, including Normality, Celulight and a couple of my shaders.
Breakdown
Just a really quick breakdown for now:
On anything with the little Pendulum logo in the bottom right corner I worked on shading and lighting.
For work labeled Studio Lampion I was in charge of shading, lighting, texturing, compositing, matte painting, as well as developing a custom post-lighting solution.
Phew, that was close… with two CGTalk frontpages with my Demo Reel this month plus the free release of my After Effects plugins, my bandwidth was running pretty close to its limit. I don’t think it would have gotten through another day without passing the limit, meaning I’d have to actually pay for the privilege of having visitors download my reel!
So in a way, it’s a good thing they realized it shouldn’t be plugged twice and took it off a few minutes ago… then again, I don’t know how often one piece of work gets plugged twice on CGTalk, so I’m quite happy anyway!
So today I made frontpage on CGTalk with my Demo Reel! I was pretty amazed coming into the office having everyone congratulate me, mainly because my colleague Reed Casey had just had his reel plugged and I didn’t think they’d do it again for me, showing off lots of the same work that he already had on his.
On Thursday it was my turn to give a presentation on my 2.5NPR renderer Panda infront of the board of examiners at my university. Apparently they enjoyed my speech as well as the slideshow and rendered samples I had prepared, gaining me the best possible grade! Quite a relief I must say. So that means I’m finally done with university and need to find my way into the CG industry.
But first I’ll be off to China for a few weeks, so there might be a lack of updates to this site. It’s my first travel abroad in years and I do hope to enjoy the time! Other than that, I’ll also be on the lookout for job opportunities, you never know who you’ll meet at the airport…
My new demo reel still needs a little work, but I hope to post it online together with some samples from my renderer before hopping on the plane next week.
This is a follow-up note to my previous post: I’d like to make it known that my updated demo reel has just been uploaded for all to see!
Most changes are based on viewer’s feedback; plus there’s a new (animated!) WIP progress scene from Sleeping Dragon included! Please download it and tell me what you think!
Maybe you don’t like QuickTime? Want to see the reel in another format? I only posted it in QuickTime because I think it’s the most reasonable format in terms of install base, quality and file size, but I may be wrong — just let me know!
